(More customer reviews)This lovely, high quality Sandalwood soap by Caswell-Massey is made of natural, vegetable based products. The soap is triple-milled which means that the soap is very hard and will last a long time. The lather is mild and creamy, leaving the skin lightly scented with this special sandalwood blend.

This is the larger size which is referred to as the bath soap. It is darker and has a wood grain appearance. The bath bars are larger and weigh 5.8 oz. They also carry a smaller size hand soap. It is light tan and comes in the 3.25 oz (92 g) size. I have used the hand soap as bath soap and cannot tell the difference--the scent and soap quality is the same.

Caswell-Massey's line of sandalwood products have been a favorite of mine for many years. The scent is so wonderful I use bars of this soap in my clothing drawers to infuse my clothing. While this blend may use other ingredients to create the blend the primary scent is the characteristic sweet woodsy fragrance of sandalwood.

Sandalwood is the name for a variety of trees (19) in the genus Santalum. True Sandalwood comes from Hawaii, Australia and India. The essential oil is very expensive and the quality varies according to the age of the tree and the species. It is naturally antibacterial which can assist in keeping skin clear of blemishes. The sweet woodsy aroma is calming and is used in ayurvedic medicine to treat anxiety.

Caswell-Massey is America's oldest apothecary established in 1752. They are well known for providing luxury personal care products. George Washington and John Adams figured among their early clientele.

(More customer reviews)This soap appeared to be a good buy for a sandalwood soap.But, the fragrance is slight while bathing and does not last long afterword.This is a hard soap with very little lather and seemed to take a long time to wash.I have used several other sandalwood soaps and the scents vary considerably from brand to brand.This soap smells nice when held against your nose, but otherwise is unremarkable.I would not recommend this soap to anyone who enjoys sandalwood.However, it would make a respectable motel soap!

The patchouli and sandalwood scents are strong, and this is a very nice, slightly gritty green bar that makes a shower an exotic experience. Nice to scent the drawer, so put a few unopened packages in your lingerie or underwear drawer and enjoy the incense-like fragrance.

While Chandrika Ayurvedic soap is handmade using no animal products, it's intoxicating and fragrant scent along with its outstanding properties as a soap are what have made me a fan for so many years. It never dries your skin yet cleans your skin completely. The packaging is also a big part of my love for this product. Each bar is stamped on both sides with an imprint and individually wrapped in clear cellophane wrapper which is then wrapped with a folded parchment sheet printed on both sides with the soap's 9 ingredients (coconut oil making up over 66%). At the bottom of the paper wrapper it states "Always Use CHANDRIKA Ensure your Personal charm."I hope you will give it a try. It's a magical little item that is inexpensive, but wonderful.

(More customer reviews)As another person said, this is some new version of this soap and not what is pictured on the product page. Definitely not what I have been using for oh, 15 years. I figured just one person mentioning that in their review might be a fluke and ordered anyway. I think it is a new formula for Chandrika, not a different product, and so is replacing what I normally get and am used to (AND LIKE!) so I don't know that there is much to be done about this, but I don't like it near as much, if at all. It has a lighter scent, and smells more of the vegetable oil and lye (or whatever) out of which it is made. Leaves a slightly unpleasant residual smell of same. But I guess if Chandrika has changed the formula, then this is it. Not happy about that. No problems with Amazon's fulfillment, just the product itself....
