(More customer reviews)The Burma shaving brush is often handed from old shaving pros to beginners as a starter brush. What that new shaver doesn't know, is that the pros only give out Burmas because they're dirt cheap.

Pros:
-The stiffness can be nice. The boar bristle used in the Burma is almost prickly, and you can really feel it digging into your pores to help clean your face. I'd almost consider using the brush for the exfoliation alone.
-CHEAP price, and the build quality is still fairly solid so it doesn't feel cheap.

Cons:
-It stinks, above and beyond the wet fur smell of any animal-hair brush.
-It's a little too stiff, and can be really unpleasant on your face.
-It doesn't hold water or lather very well.

...but it does get better, because the brush just needs a fairly involved break-in period before it truly blossoms. You'll need to expend some effort shampooing it out of the box, and then going through some lousy shaves. When you do finally break it in, it turns into an entirely usable brush.

Overall, I'd just spend the extra money and get a Tweezerman. A Tweezerman doesn't cost that much more, is made of much softer baddger hair, and the only negative out of the box is the same wet hair smell (though not nearly as bad as the Burma). A Tweezerman also doesn't need nearly the prep work that the Burma does. A Burma is a fine brush for gift baskets and and for the shaving aficianado looking to mix things up on the cheap, but there are much better brushes that don't cost that much more.

(More customer reviews)Ok I have just dived into this whole Wet Shaving process. First and foremost I love it, I mean I really love it! I never knew shaving could be so fun and irritation free! This badger brush may not be the best brush in the world since it's the only one I have ever used. However it feels nice on my skin, not to ruff or tough as I have heard complaints of some badger brushes being. Also it's not fully broken so I am sure it's going to get softer with use, but regardless of all that it's great. I used it with the Art of Shaving Cream also purchased here on Amazon.

Anyways even though I am still waiting on my 1972 Gillette Double Edge Razor, I was able to get the best shave I have ever had in my life. Mind you I have never been to a barber to get a straight razor shave, just my trusty Mach III and a can of goop. But what a difference from the can of goop to the use of real lather!!! I highly recommend this brush, but that being said you also need to have a good cream or soap to lather with to get that good shave. Badger is certainly better than boars plus there are those beautiful handles and other considerations that make a shaving session feel like a luxury...however, like any type of grooming product they tend to get a lot of use and may have hygenic concerns. These inexpensive alternatives are of a decent quality, durable enough to last years but inexpensive enough to take along when traveling or just toss away should you feel the need for new/cleaner brushes. Also an excellent option for those new to the shaving experience and unsure if they want to invest top dollar into more expensive options. Gets the job done right without the high price.

(More customer reviews)This soap is simply wonderful in my opinion. It lathers fairly well, to my understanding at least (I'm still new to shaving with these.) The scent is definitely the best thing about it. It can almost freshen your bathroom just by sitting on the counter. The only problem that I can find is that it will dry out on my face, causing me to shave in portions rather than preparing everything at once. I'm not certain, however, about if that's the soap or something I'm doing that's causing that, such as not having enough water with the brush. All in all, great soap, I'll probably continue using this until someone points me towards something better, which I find unlikely.

And, considering the price, its an awesome value.

Here's the thing about brush shaving, its really nice.It feels good on your face, it results in a nice close shave, and its honestly kinda fun to do it the old school way.

The bad part is, you go on the internet and find out that there's a super elite group of people who will tell you that THIS brand of shave soap is the best soap and you should only use THIS brand of badger brush because the other types don't compare and how you can only use THIS kind of razor because the other kinds will somehow destroy your face and make shaving the kind of unspeakable horror only sick, twisted people dare entertain their minds with.

The point I'm trying to make is this:there is actually a community of shaving snobs.People who've actually invested over a hundred dollars in particular, elite equipment to SCRAPE LITTLE HAIRS OFF THEIR CHINS!!!!

So they see this cheapo set and turn their noses up at it, because its ONLY EIGHT DOLLARS and you can BUY IT AT WAL-MART!!!
I do like wet shaving.Its a good shave.I shave with a double edge safety razor (a Merkur) and this particular kit.And it works out GREAT!!!So here's my review:

THE BRUSH:Its a boars hair brush, and its fine.It lathers well, it works the way it should, its not rough on my face at all.Yes, it has a plastic handle.WHO CARES?!?!?!?!Its the HANDLE of a friggin BRUSH!!!Do your hands start on fire if they touch plastic?Do you get an allergic reaction if your fingertips handle a brush thats not metal or wood?If you answered "No" to both those questions, then you're fine.Complaining about the material of a shaving brush handle makes you a snob.

THE BOWL:Its a bowl.The soap sits in it, it holds steady when you lather.Its fine.You know why? Because its a FREAKIN' BOWL!!!How do you honestly complain about a bowl?It functions, it doesn't offend the eye, its fine.Don't be a snob.

THE SOAP:Honestly, I've tried so many canned shaving creams its ridiculous.I'm a man with sensitive skin and it doesn't matter how moisturizing the cream was, I still had nicks and cuts and irritated skin.So imagine my surprise to find this soap to be a key part of a very clean, enjoyable shave.I seriously get better results from this soap than I do with my gels and creams.Way to go, VDH shaving soap.Are there better shaving soaps?Probably.Do I care?No, because this one leaves my face moisturized and refreshed, costs 1.80 per bar, and I can actually get it without ordering it over the internet.
BOTTOM LINE:A great wet shave kit, especially for the price.Avoid the snobby opinions and give it an honest shot.If you're not a total tool you'll probably be surprised by how nice this kit is.

There are plenty of things in this world where the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail make a huge difference.Guitars are such a product.Automobiles are another.Shaving brushes and bowls are NOT!!!

Don't be a dumb shaving snob, just go shave your face, then start investing yourself in something thats actually important.

Kingsley Shave Soap Bowl with Lid Natural Wood Review

(More customer reviews)Save your money and don't spring for this piece of garbage. I went for it, and wish I hadn't.

The good:

It's a nice, solid, pretty wood shaving bowl.

The bad: It's not nearly as pretty as shown in the picture- mine was a uniform chocolate brown, rather than the varnished natural wood you see here. Also, it's far too shallow to get any sort of decent foam going, but maybe that's just me. When I try using it, it just spills everywhere. Still, not bad for $5, right? Wrong! It reeked of lacquer when I got it, as if the shellac had not had time to dry before it was packed and shipped. I set it out to cure for a few more days, and after four days the horrid smell was finally (mostly) gone. Sadly, as soon as I put some soap in it and closed the lid, the smell came back. So unless you like shaving with soap that's been marinading in paint fumes, skip on this. It's several months old now, and still stinks up the medicine cabinet.

The ugly:

This is the second review I wrote for this. The first one was negative as well, and then I received an Amazon message asking me to take down my review in exchange for my money back. I told them I wasn't interested, so then I received a private email that Amazon couldn't read suggesting I would get my money back, my shipping back, and could still keep the silly bowl if I took my review down. I said I wasn't about to be bribed, asked them to stop contacting me, and yet somehow my review seems to have vanished!

Also, the shipping was over $6, so about sixty percent of the price of this thing was shipping.

Save your money and get something- anything!- else.

Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush Review

(More customer reviews)Badger hair shaving brushes are not the cheapest items in the world.Not to mention usually you get what you pay for; however I have to say that this brush bucks that trend.

The brush does the job at a price MUCH better than the competitors.

My one minor issue:
-the first brush I bought repeatedly would lose hairs each time I used it.I hoped it would stop at some point but this went on for a month or so.In a strange sort of luck, I managed to leave the brush behind on a business trip and had to purchase a new one.The new brush works like a charm.

In a nutshell, I would not hesitate, if you need a shaving brush and do NOT want to pay an arm and a leg then this is the brush for you.

On a side note, if you are considering this brush you should also consider (if you have not already) switching to a Safety Razor rather than the economy razors you find in the supermarket.My shaving experience and outcome has changed considerably as a result of using this brush as well as the safety razor.My recommendation for a safety razor: Merkur Classic Safety Razor, Straight - #178
