(More customer reviews)I picked this up because I try to be enviro-friendly and artificial scents give me awful headaches. Usually I use
Seventh Generation.

This smelled okay in the bottle, but upon washing clothes, it left a distinctly cedar scent. I am not sure of the blend of essential oils and other scents in this, but it comes off as Cedar - the fake scent as in men's cologne (which I cannot tolerate).

Also, this left a very sticky residue all over my hands. I washed my delicate shower curtain by hand in the sink, and this left a residue all over the shower curtain and my hands which took 4 washings to remove. If it is leaving this much residue, then I don't want it on my fabrics/clothing.

I emailed the company a week ago and still have not heard from customer service. Basically at this point, I wish to have a refund due to the problems I encountered.

I will happily return to using my Seventh Generation which has none of these issues.

For $8.88, you can buy these items separately, and have acquired enough "ingredients" to make your own laundry soap for a year, not just one batch. Aside from that, homemade laundry soap really does work just as good as the overpriced, pre-made stuff in the store. Just don't fall for this particular money-making scam, as everything you need to make your own laundry soap can be easily found on your own for much cheaper. Sorry to rain on your parade, but this kind of compilation of products is nothing more than a money-making scheme that's taking advantage of people who don't know any better. Tisk-tisk.

I'm not kidding.I use it to spot clean clothes.It takes out just about every stain. My kids were spitter-uppers and their clothes and bibs looked great. On a number of occasions it even took out stains on clothes that I had already washed AND dried.I simply wet the stain with water, rub the bar of Zote directly on the stain and into the wash with standard laundry detergent it goes. Naturally, it's always better to treat the stain right away.But grass stains, tomato sauce, wine, chocolate, etc---no problem. Using a bar soap seems very old school, but I swear by it.Say goodbye to Shout, Spray n Wash, etc.

Nellie's All Natural Laundry Soda Review

(More customer reviews)As a germaphobe, I used to dump an excessive amount of harsh detergents in the wash. In an effort to be kinder to the environment and reduce the chemicals in my household, I decided to give Nellie's a try. I was skeptical that a powder with so few ingredients would get the clothes clean--especially if I only used a tablespoon. Holy cow, it actually works!

The only difference I can tell between clothes washed in Nellie's and clothes washed in Tide is the smell. Tide leaves a very strong fragrance that lasts a while; Nellie's leaves a light, clean smell that fades faster. So I threw some dryer sheets into our dresser drawers to keep the clothes smelling sweet, at least until I have time to make some sachets.

I did run one load of extra sweaty exercise clothes that came out smelling funky and had to be rewashed. I wonder if Tide used to get rid of the sweat or just cover up the smell. Who knows? I'm sticking with Nellie's!

I didn't keep count, but I think the package lasted for 40-50 washes. (I used a few heaping spoonfuls here and there. Old habits die hard.) The 100 load tin is a much better deal than this 50 load package, so that's what I ordered when I ran out. In fact, per load, the tin is a little cheaper than Tide.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this soap locally for 12.00 for one bottle, so the price on Amazon is several dollars cheaper per bottle!I make my own soap for the warm/hot water loads, and I use this for loads using cold water.It cleans just as well as the store brand I was using (Purex) and is easier on the environment and our clothes.It does not leave a residue, although I do have softened water.When I take the clothes out of the dryer (no need for softeners, as there are soy softeners in the product), my clothes just smell clean.Nothing artificial.The soap doesn't bubble and the water doesn't get slippery, but I know it's still working because my clothes come out clean.

Nellie's Laundry Soda 100 Load Tin Review

(More customer reviews)I am a cloth diapering momma and have a limited selection of detergents that I can use with my cloth diapers. I can't use anything with dyes, perfumes, enzymes or whiteners. So products like Tide and Method are out for us. So I found Nellie's and did a little research and found that it is all natural and has none of the yucky stuff in it that we can't use and therefore it is the PERFECT detergent for cloth. It causes no build up that could lead to odors and diaper rash and it rinses clean every time. One spoonful (spoon is provided) will clean an entire large load of laundry and it is HE friendly, we have a top loader and it still works wonderfully. And the packaging is SO CUTE (and eco friendly)!

After I found how great it is with cloth diapers, I had to try it on our clothes. So, I started with the smelliest thing I could find (and was about to be thrown away because the smell stain was that bad) so I found my the shirt that my husband had left on the floor a few times and the cat found. I had tried to wash it with our old detergent and some baking soda and a vinegar rinse... it always smelled afterward the washing. (really my cat hates this shirt and we don't know why) With one wash in Nellie's the smell was GONE! So I tried it on my oldest daughters clothes and they came out so clean and fresh and softer than ever! So I ordered some more Nellie's, gave my brother in law all of our old detergent and went exclusively to Nellie's. We also use Nellie's dryer balls so that means we do not use any oils or chemicals on our clothes and I can tell a huge difference in the condition of our clothes, they are always light and fluffy.

Greenfeet has great customer service as well. I had emailed them with a problem and my email was answered within minutes and the problem was solved and they were so polite and friendly. I was really impressed! I know the shipping cost seems kind of high, but they do use eco friendly shipping materials-- no packing in plastic bubble wrap or even plastic tapes on the box so if the Earth is a priority for you at all like it is for me, it is SO worth it!

I completely recommend this detergent and company!

(More customer reviews)Fels-Naptha is the most amazing spot cleaner I have found and it's easy to use!It takes out grass stains, very oily stains, ring around the collar and even orange soda pop that has been on a t-shirt for 2 weeks.Just wet the problem spot and rub the wet soap bar into the bad stain. Once you have the spot all lathered up, rub the fabric too, like how the old fashioned scrub board was used. Throw the clothing in the washing machine. Remember heat sets the stain, so don't put the item in the dryer until you make sure the stain is really gone. Really bad items like fabric yellowed by age may take 2 treatments.I buy some really nice clothes at garage sales and thrift stores then treat the spots with Fels Naptha.It helps me have a fabulous wardrobe I wouldn't buy otherwise.This soap even works on silk. I find breaking the bar in half helps make it easier to use. I hope they make this soap forever!

(More customer reviews)There are three BIG things that REALLY trouble me about this brand. And I can safely say that I've used them ALL. At one time, there was not much as far as choices, but FAR better sellers have come on the market. Here's my issues:

1 - Terribly inconsistent quality. I've gotten nice ones and others that I almost threw away. I had to pick human or animal hairs (I think both) and dirt out of one box. One time they were nice, clean and dry, another time they were totally gross and gummy. Obviously they are packaged overseas and quality control is horrible. Guess that's the result of cheap labor and less than clean working conditions. I believe they are also subject to being stored or shipped improperly. That may be why I've gotten such sticky "clumps" of soap nuts at times. Being sealed in cellophane may cause condensation build up. I don't know and I don't really care. I simply won't buy them anymore, have found a much better and reliable seller.

2 - Very UN-"GREEN". The cellophane bags, VERY heavily glossy printed boxes (don't think it is recycled), printed EVERYTHING! I thought soap nuts were a part of the green movement. Carbon footprint is something we look at. ALL my friends share this same sentiment. It's like a slap in the face. We are trying SO hard to live greener lives, and these are packaged like this????? It's like they don't care at all.

3 - RUDE!!!! Terrible, terrible, terrible service!!!! I don't even know if there is a Maggie in this company anymore. My intuition says "No", because whoever the MAN was that I called who referred to himself as the "owner" when I last talked to them spent more time bashing his competition than helping me with my VERY SIMPLE question!!! I was checking out all the main sellers to arrange a larger purchase for my church group. We were just trying to buy them cheaper. In the end, I just hung up on him - and that is not like me AT ALL. He didn't care one bit about what I wanted to know. All he wanted to talk about was why they were the best. I was astonished. Here is a QUOTE that I'll never forget, "We are the largest importer in the entire western hemisphere." LOL!!! Like I cared. My whole group only wanted a good simple price on 25 or 35 pounds. I'm really sorry, but the last time I talked to someone with a tone like this was a beer-bellied used car salesman trying to sell me on a piece of junk. Oh, I REALLY appreciated this "owner" telling me about his 1,000 pound minimum - while still bashing EVERYBODY - and AFTER - YES!!!! - AFTER - I had finally squeezed in all that I was looking for. It was unreal...

I'm giving this company TWO stars for two reasons only. They do sell soap nuts. That's one. There probably is a very cool person named Maggie somewhere that actually DID care about us and our environment. That's TWO - and that one is for her alone. Beyond that - ZIP!
